What to Expect from Your First Group Fitness Class in Geelong

Trying something new can be nerve-wracking — especially when it involves exercise, but don’t worry out classes are capped at 8 people for a more personalised approach, and definitely no burpees! If you’re thinking about joining a group fitness class in Geelong but feel unsure about what to expect, this guide is for you.

At Team McLean Fitness Club, we keep things simple, supportive and welcoming. Here’s a quick run-through to help you feel prepared and confident for your first class.

1. What to Bring

You don’t need to arrive with all the gear — just bring a water bottle, a towel, and wear comfortable clothes you can move in. We’ve got the equipment covered, whether you’re coming to Metafit, HIIT, Mat Pilates or any of our other group exercise classes.

2. Arrive Early

If it’s your first time or your 100th time, aim to arrive10 minutes before class starts. This gives you time to say hello to your teammates, advise the Coach of any new injuries or updated on previous ones and of course a solid warm up. We’ll guide you through what to expect and make sure you’re looked after.

3. Expect Encouragement, Not Judgement

We’re all about community over competition. No matter your fitness level, you’ll be supported to work at your own pace. Our trainers are there to coach, encourage and make adjustments as needed.

4. Class Formats Vary — and That’s a Good Thing

From high-intensity sessions like Metafit and HIIT to low-impact classes like Strong Circuits and Mat Pilates, our schedule gives you variety. You might start with one and find you love another — the key is to try and be challenged is a supportive space.

5. You’ll Feel Better Afterwards

Yes, it might be challenging at times — but we promise you’ll walk out feeling stronger, more energised, and proud of yourself for showing up.
