A recent trend we’ve noticed is that more and more people from Belmont are coming to our HIIT classes together with friends. Some of them are even requesting for this type of workout for their personal training sessions and in the group classes. Keep reading to find out why…

HIIT is a great choice for people who are looking to lose weight, as it burns more calories in a shorter amount of time than many other types of exercise. And if you keep your heart rate in the 80-90% zone for the 30 mins, it continues to burn fat in the following hours long after! That’s why many of our Belmont and Geelong clients are telling us they love HIIT.
HIIT sessions are usually around 30 minutes – so it’s short, sharp, hard and fast. It is vigorous exercises, repeating movements. Right after that is a brief rest period. This gets your heart rate up and muscles burning, which has excellent benefits for both your overall health and weight loss goals.
You don’t need to worry about how “intense” or difficult the workout is either, our fitness Coach Kristen adjusts the exercise options specifically for your own ability and caters for all fitness levels.
HIIT is great for all shapes, sizes and ages as is designed to work your body hard. For example; if there is an AFL footy player, a sedentary desk worker and a growing teenager all doing the same HIIT group fitness class together, and the expectation is that everyone is to be working at 80% intensity level – Each person’s ’80%’ is different; so it can be applied to everyone!

High-intensity interval training can be used to improve your fitness level. By increasing dynamic and explosive movements, with shorter rest times, it trains the heart and lungs to recover quicker.
The more you practice this style of workout, the body becomes more adaptive to the movements, the heart and lungs learn the intensity, and the recovery from the movements is quicker, therefore the fitter you become.
Coach Kristen incorporates HIIT, 1-2 sessions a week in her own fitness routine. As it is great to use HIIT to improve your cardiovascular health, it is also important to incorporate and balance your workout with resistance training (weights), LISS (low intensity steady state – 45-60mins) and Pilates/ Yoga (stretching and breath work).
